Obituary for Jose I. Garcia Sr.

Jose I. Garcia Sr.
Jose, Sr. started his new journey this Thursday and will be remembered by family, friends and co-workers as a sincere gentleman with unwavering principles and an original sense of humor. Yes, we are smiling already. His love for family was evident throughout his life as he was always honored by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at baptisms, confirmations sporting events, recitals, graduations, white coat ceremonies, birthdays and numerous weddings and family celebrations.

We now celebrate Jose, Sr.’s life as we adjust to our daily routines with him in our hearts and in our memories and prayers. Jose is preceded in death by his loving wife Mercedes Marie and survived by his children, Jose (Barbara), George (Janet) Mercedes, and Fabian (Maureen). He loved and cherished his 10 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren with 2 on the way.

It is evident Jose, Sr. was truly respected in his numerous places of employment since he immigrated his family to Tucson from Guayaquil, Ecuador in 1958, with the assistance of his brother-in-law and American sponsors. Jose worked as a waiter and bartender in popular restaurants and managed several Circle K’s before he started his 25 year career as an Appraiser in the Personal Property Division of the Pima County Assessor’s Office. After retirement and some travel, he worked part-time another 15 years at the Assessor's office. He was respected for his strong work ethic and outstanding professionalism and customer service toward his co-workers and his customers.

A private service will be held with family. We celebrate his 89 years of his life with numerous memories of love and appreciation for this strong, accomplished man. Since he volunteered for the Community Food Bank, please send donations in his honor to this organization, instead of flowers.

The family appreciates your kind words and thoughts. Please feel free to post your comments on this site.
