Adelaide Thompson Reeves (Sperduti), died Tuesday, June 13, at the age of 99 at home in Tucson, Ariz. A private memorial service will be held at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, R.I., where she will be interred.
Born in Providence on Nov. 6, 1917, to Emilio and Maria Carbone Sperduti, Adelaide was a resident of the Edgewood section of Cranston for 50 years, and lived in Tucson for the past 26 years.
She was an honors graduate of Cranston High School East, where she was a diver on the swim team, and later earned a fine art degree from the University of Lincoln in England. At the age of 74, she graduated with distinction with a B.F.A. degree from the University of Rhode Island.
Before marriage, Adelaide was employed by the U.S. Navy at the Naval Torpedo Station in Newport, and in Washington, D.C. A career woman at a time when few were, she later worked as an illustrator and a copy writer for multiple advertising agencies in Rhode Island; she retired in 1982 from the Horton Church and Goff agency.
Adelaide was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, USAF Maj. Jack E. Thompson, with whom she lived in Japan, England and throughout the United States. She was also predeceased by her husband of 20 years, Dr. James Reeves, and by her sisters, Mary Regan and Emanuela Martin Choptovy.
She leaves a sister, Connie Sperduti, of Cranston; sons, John A. Thompson, Esq. (Elinor) of Cranston, R.I., and Dr. Glenn M. Thompson (Martha) of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
