Obituary for Matthew Edward "Matty" Torres

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Matthew Edward Torres “Matty”, age 19, our most beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, chose to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 12, 2019 in Tucson Arizona.

Those who knew Matthew lost a shining light in their lives.

Matthew was born on February 21, 1999, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. He graduated from Cienega High School in May of 2017. He was such a loving, caring person that he decided to become an In-home Health Caregiver for Consumer Direct Care Network, a position he held for a year. His clients loved him greatly. While growing up, his absolute passions were skateboarding and playing video games. He loved music and listened to a wide range of genres, from Classics, Oldies, Rock and Roll to Heavy Metal. He joined a few bands, and was a screamo vocalist. He loved every aspect of music, including writing, playing, and singing. He rode his ATV all over the Arizona desert and shared many online videos of his adventures. Matthew was proud that one of his crashes was featured on a TV show. Matthew loved all animals, and all animals loved him.

Honoring Matthew’s generous wish, the gift of organ and tissue donation will touch the lives of as many as 50 people.

Matthew will be deeply missed every day by his father, Timothy B. Torres and his second wife Marci, and his mother Lorraine M. (Turner) Hightower and her second husband Chance; birth mother, Rebecca Martin (Paul); his siblings Chance Hightower Jr (Rebecca), Ashley Hightower, Roxanne Bejarano, Michael Bauman (Allison), Amy Norozian (Justin), Matthew Bauman, Katie Bauman, Monica Blake, Brittany Kerr (Willy), and Dalton Kerr; grandparents Sally Torres, Robert Turner (Mary) and Carole Arenas (Rudy); aunts; uncles; cousins; nephews; nieces; and friends.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandmother, Carol Turner; grandfathers, Estevan Torres, and James M. Hightower; uncles Luke Hightower, and Eddie Torres; and birth father, Eugene Romero.

Public Visitation will be held Friday, January 18, 2019, from 10 AM to 12 PM, with the Funeral Service beginning at 12 PM, at Abbey Funeral Chapel, 3435 N. 1st Ave, Tucson, AZ, 85719. Graveside services will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery, Tucson, AZ.

The family invites you to join them at 2 PM for a celebration of Matthew’s life at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 601 E. Fort Lowell Rd. Tucson, AZ, 85705.
