Obituary for Lewis Curtis Schreck
Lewis "Duke" Schreck was born on October 25, 1931 in San Francisco, California and is one of four children born to Irene and Lewis Schreck. He attended San Francisco University where he was a Defensive Back.
After graduation he joined the USAF where he continued to coach and play sports at various bases around the world. These included being stationed in the Philippines, Morocco and Jordan before retiring in 1989 from Air Force with the rank of Major. When Duke was assigned to the CFB North Bay from 1969-1973, he actively participated in the Little League and High School football and Basketball programs. From 1970-1973, he was the Defensive Coach of the North Bay Tr-Cats and in 1970 was voted Defensive Coach of the NFC All-Star Team. Additionally, while stationed in Alaska Duke became an avid fisherman, including ice fishing. He also participated in the sports of ski doo and curling.
Upon his retirement and return to North Bay in 1990, he became a member of the Bulldogs Coaching Staff. With this retirement in 1992, he spent six months in Canada and six months in Tucson Arizona. In 2017 he made Arizona his full-time residence.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jeannine and nephew Barry Lachance (Wendy). Additionally, he is survived by his two daughters from a previous marriage, Julie Marshall (George) and Catherine Druck (Larry, deceased) and granddaughters Ysa and Dara. Duke’s three surviving sisters are Jackie Ferrell (Harry), Rene South (Stan) and Kaye Sabadas (Bill, deceased).
